As 2024 has progressed, economic data--especially inflation data--have made it increasingly clear that rates will not be coming down nearly as soon as the Fed (and the market) expected. Rates are driven by multiple factors. At present, inflation is chief among those, followed by the economy.
The prospects for mortgage rates have not been great in April. While we did see some relief on Friday, Thursday's reaction to the quarterly PCE data brought the average 30yr fixed rate to new 5 month highs--a fact that is not yet reflected in Freddie's weekly survey numbers.
My top 5 things to do in May!
1. Tulip Time! Tulip Time in Holland, Michigan will run from May 4th - May 12th. There are art shows, fireworks, multiple parades, food, dancers and LOTS of tulips. You can view all the news on Tulip Time, HERE.
2. John Ball Zoo's Lantern Festival returns April 10th - June 16th! The lantern festival will feature handcrafted Asian lantern displays that will illuminate the Zoo and tell the intersecting story of wildlife and Asian culture.
4. Baldwin's Blessing of the Bikes - May 15-17th with a performance by the Scottsville Clown Band on the 16th.
5. Jeep Invasion at Silver Lake Dunes! From May 30th - June 2nd, this event is always fun with food, music and parades.
BONUS EVENT - The Jenison Memorial Day Parade! 5k Race begins at 8am, Parade begins at 9am with a fly-over. Parade route is along Jenison, beginning at 20th and ending at Cottonwood.
